WHAT IF THIS IS YOUR LAST RAMADHAN ON EARTH?

My dear brother/sister, the intent of the above caption is far from scaring yo

After all, it’s one of the one thousand and one possibilities in life

Even though you have never thought about that singular possibility before

It’s okay, this is to remind you and I that witnessing this Ramadan is a grace

Think of those we observed last year Ramadan together

But are not opportune to experience this year

They equally requested from Allah to witness this year Ramadan

But never knew last year was their last Ramadan on earth

Allah (SWT) granted our request in our own case

Hence why we can witness this year Ramadan

Do you realise this is a special grace from Allah (SWT)?

So how are you going to take advantage of this grace?

    Remember the Prophet (SAW) said:

“Take advantage of five matters before five other matters:

    Your youth, before you become old; your health, before you fall sick;

    Your richness, before you become poor; your free time before you become busy;

And your life, before your death.”

How are you sure where the next year Ramadan would meet you?

On earth or in grave? In good health or in hospital?

And this is why you need to make judicious use of the privilege you have now

Strive with all your effort as though this is your last Ramadan on earth

Especially in the last ten days of Ramadan

So that you have no cause to regret how you spent your last Ramadan

    When the reality comes

Even though you abstain from food and drink during the day of Ramadan

But do you abstain from backbiting, vain talks, lying, stealing, etc?

And the prophet (SAW) said “whoever does not give up lying speech,

And acting on those lies, and evil actions,

Allah (SWT) is not in need of his leaving food and drink” [Bukhari]

Do you observe the five daily prayers regularly even though it’s equally an obligatory act?

The Prophet (SAW) said: ‘between a man, shirk and kufr there stands his giving up prayer.’

Do you stay clear of those acts that can vitiate your fast?

Rather than relaxing your day playing video games, or worse still, watching movies

Where woman nakedness is being displayed therein

I suppose it’s far better for you to take up your Qur’an and start reciting it

So that you can make the most of the blessings of the month

Remember someone else wished he had this privilege you have

And wished he made a better use of it than you do now

But a time is also coming when you would also wish for this opportunity again

That time your wish shall never be granted by Allah (SWT)

So why don’t you make efficient use of the time now?

I can see that you are so engrossed in pursuit of these worldly affairs

And that takes your time from striving hard on what shall remain for you in the akhirah

I hope you remember it is not sure you would catch that which you are busy pursuing about

Even though what is pursuing you would certainly catch up with you someday

    Allah (SWT) says [Q102:1-2]

“The mutual rivalry (for piling up of worldly things) diverts you,

    Until you visit the graves”

This is why you need to use this Ramadhan as a ransom

I wonder when I see some old people striving to maximise the reward of Ramadan

They recite Qur’an often, and pray many rakats in the Tarawih prayer relentlessly

And I see some youth who are more agile wasting away their time

Pray just only a few rakats of the Tarawih prayer

And go their way to attend to things non-beneficial

They can spend several hours on the internet

Forgetting that whatever they do is what shall be credited to their accounts

“and whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will

certainly find it with Allah, better and greater in reward.” [Q73:20]

So why don’t we strive hard for maximum reward during this Ramadan?

Remember Ramadan has a fixed number of days

Even though you call yourself a Muslim

But don’t bother to pray the five daily prayers regularly and

Cannot fast the month of Ramadan

I wonder the basis of your being a Muslim

Do you ever realise that being a Muslim is by practice?

The prophet of Allah (SAW) said

‘Jibreel said to me, ‘May Allah rub his nose in the dust, that person to whom

Ramadan comes and his sins are not forgiven,’ and I said, ‘Aameen’. [Tirmidhi & Ahmad]

My dear reader, it’s never too late to rectify your mistakes and do good for the sake of Allah

Seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT) Who is ever ready to forgive

“…And seek Forgiveness of Allah. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.”

    [Q73:20]

May this admonition benefit you and me in this world and hereafter.
